Getting organized for the new year

No, you haven't stumbled onto one of those home- and office-organization blogs with cute names. But it really hit me on New Year's Day - it's 2015 now and this is the year of the inaugural Blue Carpet Corridor event (June) and the Edwardsville Route 66 Conference (October). So I've been keeping my nose to the grindstone (or my shoulder to the wheel, whichever trite expression you dislike the least) so far in January.

A quote attributed to A. A. Milne is, "Organizing is something you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up." Well, I don't want either event to be mixed up, so this month I've stirred up a whirlwind of spreadsheets, lists, three-ring binders, emails, meetings, one-on-ones, letters, and phone calls with the intent of creating two great events. And now there's a dedicated conference phone line and a Twitter account.

So here's the scoop on what's new with the events. Just a reminder, the inaugural Blue Carpet Corridor weekend is Saturday-Sunday, June 13-14. The official Blue Carpet Corridor theme is "Miners, Mobsters, and the Mother Road." Two of the communities, Chatham and Edwardsville, each have festivals going on Friday evening, June 12 - bonus! That's also the weekend of the Route 66 Association of Illinois' annual Motor Tour, and they have adopted (with our BCC blessing, of course) the "Miners, Mobsters, and the Mother Road" theme! Our BCC communities are busy planning their activities and we hope to have a lot of their information linked onto the BCC website within the next couple weeks. Check out the website so far and sign the guestbook at www.bluecarpetcorridor.org. We also have a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BlueCarpetCorridor. Our community page editors will be adding lots of info on their activities.

Now you've got June 13-14 on your calendars, think about a trip to Edwardsville for Halloween! My latest news is that the Edwardsville-Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce has confirmed a Route 66-themed parade for October 31. The huge annual parade will carry the theme - wait for it - "Miners, Mobsters, and the Mother Road!" Ever hear that theme before? The evening Halloween parade and a big party (more on that before long) will close out the conference on Saturday evening, October 31.

The conference now has its own Facebook page, Twitter account, and dedicated phone number! Look for us as "Route66Edwardsville" on both Facebook and Twitter. Our phone number is 618-606-1968.  You can email us now also at rt66conference@gmail.com.

We'll soon have our website with online conference registration and the tentative schedule. Remember, we've added another day to the festivities - so now you can plan for staying busy Wednesday-Saturday, October 28-31.

We've been trying hard to do it right, so that when you get here, it's not "all mixed up!" More event news soon. Lots of fun coming in Illinois in 2015.
